Shaping stories with video

I have yet to work on a film, television or video project that I didn’t love. This page features some of my favorites.

I am the lead writer and a producer of Landis: Just Watch Me is the inspiring true story of Landis Sims, a 15-year old baseball player born with a quad-congenital limb deficiency, meaning he is missing both hands and feet. Witness Landis over 8 years, as he tackles his goal of making his Varsity team with guidance from some of Major League Baseball’s best. With no hands, no feet and no limits, Landis: Just Watch Me will have you cheering and ready to step away from the sidelines to face your own challenges.

Let Them Play: A Triathlon Across America was my first feature- length documentary. I served as writer and producer. The film is now available on most major streaming platforms.

As part of this project, I also wrote and produced a series of video shorts that the Let Them Play Foundation featured on their social channels as the Byrnes family made its way across the country during the summer of 2017.

I’ve been working as lead writer and producer on this film since 2015. Coming to a streaming service near you this July.

Television

Anytime I’ve worked on a television project, I’ve had a blast.

Here are some of my favorites…

It was my privilege to work with Grizzly Creek Films, Microsoft Studios and Relentless Software to create Kinect Nat Geo TV: America the Wild. Using groundbreaking Kinect for Xbox 360 technology, this series is the first wildlife program ever transformed into a two-way television experience. I worked as the lead writer/narrative designer on this season of the show. This project won a ‘Golden Panda’ New Media Award at the prestigious Wildscreen Film Festival.

A late-night snack. A spacewalk. Something's gotta give. I conceived of, wrote and directed this 0:30 spot for Doritos.

For Season Two, I worked with the popular NatGeo TV series Dangerous Encounters with the inimitable Dr. Brady Barr. In addition to my brief star-turn as “nameless helicopter pilot” in episode 6, I was the lead writer and director for this 10-episode season. At one point on-set, I had to put a Ken-doll shirt on a live baby alligator. Not sure why I’m mentioning that, but it is a pretty specific skill to have.

This was my first-ever gig writing for television. I scripted this episode of Designing Spaces to highlight Windows® Media Center, a part of Windows Vista.

The World of Sports

I started my career in newspapers as a sports stringer, driving a beat-up station wagon all over central Texas chasing down stories. I loved that job, and my love of sports has never waned.

When I get a chance to work on sports-themed projects, I usually take it.

The Evolve 1 app delivers a mental conditioning program aimed at young athletes. I helped design the topics, wrote the scripts and oversaw postproduction.

I wrote a series of short videos for the Los Angeles Angels in 2017 for “The Halo Way” campaign.

Eric Byrnes pauses his Triathlon Across America to visit with one inspiring athlete. I wrote and edited this cutaway sequence in the film.

I edited together this overview video of Eric Byrnes attempt to break the long-standing world record for number of holes of golf in 24 hours.

Short Films

Short films have always been a fun hobby of mine, plus a way to keep my production and post-production chops sharp and ready. Here are a few projects I’ve made over the years.
